Beauty and Mischief are at the very heart of Tinc y Tannau. Ailsa Mair Hughes and Sianed Jones sing and play the bass Viola da Gamba at the same time. Their playing is inspired by their surroundings, be that a waterfall, a resonant capel or a room full of art. Together they conjure up rich four-part harmonies that are intoxicating on these ancient resonant instruments that can be bowed or strummed like a guitar. They perform playful improvisations, original songs, their own interpretations of 17th Century pieces and unusual setting of ancient Welsh poetry.
“their re-imagining allows our imaginations to at once soar about and plunge deeply into life…….. this is a rare sound that both inspires and utterly silences” Sam Robinson.
Tinc y Tannau are releasing their first album ‘GALW’ to coincide with their autumn tour in 2018.
