Small World Theatre presents an opportunity to experience a different kind of animation, with an evening with new work by Sean Vicary and experimental animation from agency Animate Projects curated by its co-founder and director, Gary Thomas.
Seán Vicary introduces new work developed as part of his recent Arts Council Wales Creative Wales award. He will join Professor Kirsti Bohata in conversation to discuss his latest animation, a response to Alan Garner’s cult novel ‘The Owl Service’.
Animate Projects has an international reputation for supporting experimental animation, working with a wide range of artists to make work that is provocative and exciting. Gary will take us on a whirlwind tour of earlier British experiments in animation – from silent cinema (and earlier), through Post Office ads in the 1940s, and the revolutionary moment of A Yellow Submarine. He’s also bringing a selection of some of the contemporary films by artists that Animate has worked with over the last 25 years, including works for television, collaborations with scientists, and a singing appendix.
Tickets are £7 and include entry to both events. We’ll take a break after Sean’s screening and you are welcome to order a bowl of soup (V) to eat during the interval. Please contact the Box Office if you need more information or have a dietary requirement.
