There’s going to be a Winter Giant Lantern Parade in Cardigan along with a spectacular Fireworks Display following the success of 2016. We’ve joined forces with Cymdeithas Aberteifi Society and members of Cardigan’s Town Centre Partnership to create a magical spectacle and an event to be remembered.
We are delighted by the community’s response this year. With thanks to National Lottery’s Awards for All for funding this year’s Winter Giant Lantern Parade. Families and community groups have created a beautiful array of lanterns which are set to light up Cardigan in the Winter Giant Lantern Parade on 8th December at 7pm.
Crowds are expected to line the streets to watch this year’s Parade which is inspired by ‘The Tale of Taliesin’ – a fitting theme during the ‘Year of Legends’ in Wales. Look out for the giant hare, hen, stag and many other magnificent large-scale lanterns.
Lantern bearers are invited to Small World Theatre from 6.15pm – 6.45pm to collect and light their lanterns. Please note that there’s no parking at Small World Theatre. The public is advised to park in one of the public car parks (behind The Guildhall or Theatr Mwldan).
The Parade will begin at Pendre and make its way through the festive streets to Cardigan Castle. There will be choirs and lots of Christmas cheer inside the Castle before a firework display. Cardigan’s rich array of shops will stay open until 7pm offering visitors and locals a chance to do some Christmas shopping.
The Winter Giant Lantern Parade is one of the events happening during Cardigan’s annual Festive Fortnight 2 – 17 December. Full details of the Festive Fortnight can be found on
