Small World Theatre hosted a rather unique event ‘A Celebration of Meigan Fayres’ in October 2011 which was ostensibly an opportunity to show this recently re discovered film ‘shot in 1975. The film Meigan Fayre was produced by Paul Haggiag and shot and edited by Misha Norland. It is an extraordinary document of a time, a sub culture and the aspirations of an alternative movement. We feel that this alternative rehearsal of the future was an important part of the development of this area but footage of this social experiment is rare. Could this be a reason why mainstream media still seems to persist in marginalising its impact?
The event was fabulous with some audience members flying in from the US and Australia. All came to reunite, celebrate, play and listen to a reformed Mazariba, the ever popular Smudger as well as other artists of that era but mostly we came to remember the spirit of the Meigan Fayres.
Small World Theatre has been given permission to copy a limited number of DVDs of the film and we have added a few extras, such as photos of the original event and some of the 2011 celebration.
