Winding Snake Productions and Small World Theatre are proud and excited to announce the launch of a new project Rangoli: Art that Binds supported by the Season, British Council Wales, Wales Arts International and Arts Council Wales. Eleven Welsh arts projects are taking Welsh culture to India as part of the UK-India 2017 cultural season.

This year Welsh and Indian creative professionals will travel to each other’s countries to work together and develop, produce and perform new work. Amy and Ann, the directors of Winding Snake and Small World Theatre, visited India in  February 2017 to build connections and partnership with Indian artists and organisations.

Enjoy the results of these collaborations by participating in the launch of Rangoli: Art that Binds at Small World Theatre on 15 August 2017.

Rangoli (or kollam) is a women’s decorative artform designed to reflect the natural world. Join us to learn about this exciting cultural tradition and celebrate to 70 years of Indian independence!

We’re inviting people from across the community to join us for a day of all things Rangoli; coming together to celebrate friendship, art and beauty in dazzling displays of colour, skill and skillshare in an all-day Rangoli making workshop with artists from India and Wales.

Create your own design in the morning and after a delicious Bengali lunch, the group will create a Rangoli together using powders from the markets of Delhi and flowers from Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.

We’ll be working with special guest Indian folk artist Rajni Kiran-Jha to create intricate, colourful, collaborative art. People of all ages and backgrounds will have the opportunity to learn how to create their own Rangoli artwork, meet the Winding Snake team, enjoy tasty Indian treats and contribute to a gigantic piece of Rangoli art on Small World Theatre’s very own circular stage.

We especially invite local artists to share their own expertise, meet new people and to learn a new skill. For more information on how you can get involved in the project, please contact the Winding Snake team jenny@windingsnake.com
