Madhbani Workshop with artist Rajni Kiran Jha

As part of Rangoli: Art that Binds, a new Wales India participatory art project led by Winding Snake Productions, Rajni will be visiting Small World Theatre in Cardigan to work with local practicing professional and amateur artists. Join her in an exciting and enlightening one day workshop in Madhubani painting.

Rajni Kiran Jha has made art since she was old enough to hold the tools.  She lives in Delhi  and when she is not teaching art, spends her time creating new work and sharing her it at galleries across India. She specialises in the folkart of Bundelkand, batik, madhubani painting, madhubani fusion, kalamkari painting, sculpture and photography.

Madhubani painting is traditionally done with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks, using natural dyes and pigments, and is characterized by eye-catching geometrical patterns. There is ritual content for particular occasions, such as birth or marriage, and festivals, such as Holi, Surya Shasti & Durga Puja.
