Digital Puppets for a Digital Stage

Small World Theatre received support from the Arts Council of Wales in 2020 to explore and experiment with new ground-breaking digital techniques. Puppeteers worked alongside digital artists and technicians to learn new Adobe software. A year into the project and we continue to create and experiment with 2D puppet characters. They have become an exciting part of our delivery with future plans to include them in our digital productions.

Small World Theatre launched its Digital Stage in March 2021 with the first in a series of ticketed Cabarets. The desire from our audience to re-connect, the eclectic mix of entertainment from across the world, the balance of live and filmed acts, meant that the event was a huge success. Small World Theatre continues to work closely with AM Cymru to present an online programme.

The Digital Stage is also a platform to present Amser Stori for young children and their families. Our featured story Criw’r Coed a Gwenyn Coll by Carys Glyn was in partnership with the author, illustrator Ruth Jên and Y Lolfa. This storytelling/ animated production tells the beautiful tale of some of animals from the Mabinogi on a mission to overcome the many challenges of today’s changing environment. They start by helping a small bee.
