Today’s UPDATE 18 Dec - 11am
Weather update 🌧️🌧️🌧️. Although we’re expecting heavy rain, we’re planning to go ahead despite the forecast. We may start the fireworks earlier (anytime between 7pm - 8pm). Our aim is to give you a wonderful spectacle, but it may be in a shorter time!
Following a tradition that they began in 2016, Small World Theatre will create another fantastic giant lantern parade for the town on Wednesday 18 Dec - starts 7pm.
Cardigan Giant Lantern Parade
Wednesday 18 December - starts 7pm.
Collection.
Gather at Small World Theatre at 6pm to collect your lantern and have a carrying stick fitted. You will be guided to one of the venue’s exits to light your candle at 6.45pm and join the parade.
School and community groups will be contacted separately with arrangements. Please ask your teacher/leader for information.
Route.
Parade sets off at 7pm from Pendre to Prince Charles Quay. We ask spectators to stay on the pavement this year and join the Parade AFTER the last giant lanterns. Look out for the cute frog 🐸 and JOIN BEHIND THE FROG. Thanks. The attendees and spectators will finish on the Quayside with a spectacular low noise firework display and fire juggling display.
Free bus service.
Festival of Light is supporting the Parade with a free Richard’s Bros. bus service from Aberaeron to Cardigan. Please see the timetable here

Road closure and parking.
Road closure from 6.30pm - 9pm includes Cardigan High Street and the old bridge by the Castle. Traffic will be re-directed along the bypass and entry to the town from the North. Please see map.
Parking.
All public car parks are open and parking fees apply. Please do not park on the High Street to allow for the Lantern Parade.
Other events on 18 Dec.
Some shops are staying open for your enjoyment. There are other events dovetailing with the event and plenty of hospitality planned afterwards with bars and restaurants open. Find them listed in the winter calendar on Creative Cardigan’s website.
Whatever the weather.
We’d like to say that the show will go on whatever the weather, but strong winds and heavy rain may postpone the event. Please check our website and social media for announcements on the day. Wear weatherproof clothing.
The parade will be a major event within a new winter festival, Festival of Light in Cardigan. The Festival of Light has received financial support from the Cynnal y Cardi Fund which is administrated by the Cynnal y Cardi team, Ceredigion County Council, on behalf of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It will link events organised by the town in a festival programme and support local businesses and stakeholders to highlight the many local attractions, unique independent shops, cafes, restaurants, venues and bars that justifiably make Cardigan an exciting winter destination.
