The River Teifi - its past, present and future.

The Llais yr Afon project is a partnership project between Small World Theatre, spacetocreate, West Wales Rivers Trust, Save the Teifi and supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund

Llais yr Afon puts the River Teifi at the heart of the community through arts, heritage and citizen science. The project addresses community aspirations and produce environmental improvements, and most importantly ensure communities are informed, engaged and involved.  There is a new People’s Plan for the River Teifi (see below) and a programme of summer events coming soon. At the end of this project there will be a touring exhibition showcasing Idris Mathias’ Illustrated map alongside a new contemporary map created by the communities of Cenarth, Llechryd, Cilgerran, Aberteifi and Llandudoch.

Llais yr Afon is a community engagement project dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for the well-being of the Teifi River, particularly the stretches that flow through Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

In the face of the global climate crisis, our local river ecosystems are under increasing pressure. The Teifi, like many rivers, is affected by fly-tipping, sewage and industrial pollution, and the growing threat of rising water levels due to climate change.

Llais yr Afon is a National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project. We’re inviting local job seekers to take part in free river conservation workshops, with the chance to earn an Agored Cymru qualification and develop key employability skills, including: Planning & Organisation, Problem Solving, Creative Thinking, Personal Performance.

While paid employment isn’t guaranteed, the project offers valuable insights into conservation work and can support your career development in this growing sector.

There will be three sessions: 2 with Small World Theatre in our venue. 1 outdoors by the river, involving hands-on citizen science with the West Wales River Trust.

10 places are available. Begins in June 2025.

Participants must apply to join. The application is quick and can be completed at the Job Centre using their PCs. An email address is required. The course will be delivered in English, and course fees will be covered. We can also reimburse the cost of a return bus ticket on workshop days (with a receipt or ticket provided).
