Welcome to Amethyst

We run programmes for young people who have experienced issues around self-harm, anxiety, depression, low confidence and low self-esteem. Amethyst also works with young people more broadly around emotional well-being.

Amethyst prioritises creating a safe, supportive, non-judgemental, well boundaried space. We model kindness, empathy, honesty and integrity. Using techniques from ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ such as forum theatre, image theatre and other art forms and games alongside Transactional Analysis theory and practice, to promote well-being and improve mental health. Amethyst is a responsive project that is complementary to what is offered by other local organisations. Founded in 2016.

This page is the latest project information and developments. If you’d like to know more, or have someone who you think would benefit from Amethyst support, please contact us. 01239 615 952 / deri@smallworld.org.uk

Amethyst current groups and delivery.

Monday Group

Supporting young people aged 12-18 who are experiencing issues around anxiety, depression, self-harming behaviours, low confidence and low self-esteem. We share techniques, play games and offer support using the arts to improve mental health. The group is small, friendly and inclusive. The age range of this group changes from term to term and participants are referred on to it by professionals or parent/guardians.

Uplifting Aerial Sessions

Starting in February, we will be piloting a series of Uplifting Aerial workshops for young people of secondary age. We also continue to work, on a monthly basis, with an established group of young people who attended Arts Boost in partnership with Hywel Dda. We have been developing our practice to benefit the participants by adjusting our delivery; including elements of aerial circus, yoga and providing information about our bodies and nervous systems.

Peer Support Groups

Amethyst works with 6th formers in local secondary schools to train them in peer support. The training is informed by, and designed in collaboration with the 6th formers, to help them listen to and support younger pupils safely. The programme also benefits the 6th formers through self-development, with the option to gain accreditation through our new partnership with Agored/Planed.
